Camp Site
Jamborees in Finland have been held in various places around the country, mostly rented or on loan from the Military, Church and local municipalities. Now guides and scouts are able to gather in the thousands in a camping centre designed for Jamborees and troop level summer camps alike. The Evo Camping Center for Youth is a joint operation of the Guides and Scouts of Finland, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and HAMK University of Applied Sciences. The Evo camping center was used for the first time in 2010 by the VI Finnjamboree Kilke, with over 10 000 guides and scouts camping together.
The idea now is to develop a permanent youth camping center where troops, districts and other youth organisations can easily arrange their own camps. Few permanent buildings, water pipes and a well were built to ease the maintenance of Kilke and other future camps.
Evo is one of the largest continuous forested areas in southern Finland. The Evo area consists of a state-owned Hiking Area, which was established in 1994, and of nature reserves, a teaching forest for HAMK University of Applied Sciences, Evo, and the recreational forest of the town of Hämeenlinna. More information on the Evo hiking area can be found here.
The Evo forest institute was established in 1862 and is the oldest forestry school in Finland. Today the foresty education in Evo is organized by the Häme Vocational Institute and HAMK university of Applied Sciences. More information can be found at www.hami-edu.fi and www.hamk.fi.
